Healthcare industry and application-oriented medical technologies

With more than one million employees, the healthcare industry is by far the biggest industry sector in North Rhine-Westphalia. Due to the high growth dynamics, it is expected that this sector will grow by 200,000 employees in North Rhine-Westphalia in the coming years.

The healthcare industry cluster North Rhine-Westphalia links the development of clusters in the six health regions: Aachen, Köln/Bonn, Münsterland, Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Südwestfalen and Metropole Ruhr (as of 10/2010) with the development of clusters in future key areas of the healthcare industry, such as medical technology, hospital of the future, telemedicine as well as employment and qualification. It focuses on extending and strengthening the connections between local and regional healthcare players, who serve as drivers for innovation for the sector.

Currently the FIR contributes to the cluster activities with the project MeDiNa.
