Determination of the carbon footprint of different drive concepts of production facilities
The projects aim was the development of a procedure with integrated calculation sequence which specifies the ISO 14067 and optimises the carbon footprint of fluid powered and electromechanical linear drives. This Method was implemented into a calculation tool which follows the needs of SME to estimate the climate impacts of a planned facility with little effort.
Building on a systematisation of different drives and applications a database was created with regard to ecological impacts caused by the drives at production, operation and End-of-Life.
Furthermore a method including a practically orientated calculation sequence was created. The results are mentioned at a consideration of alternative scenarios. Approach and results were submitted to critical checks and are documentated practice-oriented.
In the project the following results were aimed:
1) Established and practice-oriented calculation procedure for calculation of the carbon footprint
2) Database for different drives as a base for the calculation of the carbon footprint
3) Freely available user tool for independent calculation of the carbon footprint
4) Action alternatives to allow users a reduction of the carbon footprint
The results can be used by industrial users in the field of SME to estimate the direct and indirect CO2 emissions of the own company.
In this way the emissions of products produced during production can be calculated. Due to the increasing consciousness for environmental subjects on customer side, this shows an advantage for the company.
Manufacturer of the drives can use this knowledge for the calculation of the cumulated CO2 emissions of their products and to recognise and implement improvement potentials concerning the climate impacts.
