Datamanagement for Augmented Reality
The goal of the DM4AR research project is to make service knowledge scalable and easy to use by automatically generating augmented reality content from various data sources.
The transformation of society into a knowledge society has made knowledge the central success factor for every company. This is particularly true in technical service, as this is often performed on complex and highly individualized machines and plants. The growing interconnectedness and digitization offer the potential to absorb existing knowledge of individual employees of a company much more efficiently and to make it available to a large number of employees through targeted, context-related provision.
The procedure focuses specifically on the challenges in technical service. For this purpose, use cases of the technical service are examined in cooperation with the application partners and the Augmented Reality (AR) platform is iteratively further developed on the basis of these. In addition, a prototype will be developed with which continuous tests can be performed. This is particularly necessary in view of the high complexity of the information, since interfaces and data models are subject to particularly complex tests. Thus, usable results can be generated early in the course of the project, since the prototype is used for continuous testing.
The goal of the DM4AR research project is, on the one hand, to create an AR platform (data integration, interfaces and data model) that serves the automated preparation and conversion of data into a common AR format. On the other hand, the employees are to be supported with suitable target and incentive systems as well as reference processes in the provision of implicit knowledge. In order to achieve this, the relevant data and data exchange formats must first be identified (e.g. by text, speech and image recognition) and the necessary technical tools and processes for their recording and preparation selected and, if necessary, further developed. In addition, processes must be designed to motivate employees to pass on and document their knowledge in an AR-appropriate manner and to minimize knowledge silos through targeted use of the data.
Benefits for the target group
With DM4AR, the main barrier to the widespread and productive use of AR technology can be overcome in the future by establishing a platform-based and automated approach to data preparation. The focus is on easy integration into the operational service process in order to maximize the benefits and simplify the conversion of service processes. DM4AR thus enables the securing and targeted use of the knowledge available in the company.
