The background

Industrial maintenance has a significant impact on the German economy. In Germany alone, it generates plant availability and productivity values equivalent to one trillion euros every year. The volume of assets under its responsibility amounts to 2.2 trillion euros. Plant availability in production is a key factor for the success of companies and for Germany as an industrial location. Today, however, maintenance is facing new challenges. Due to the digitalization of production - the development towards a smart factory - the requirements for maintenance are also becoming increasingly complex. The technical availability of plants can only be guaranteed if maintenance adapts to this new production environment. Conversely, it is thus simultaneously becoming an important "enabler" for the smart factory of tomorrow. The strategic importance of maintenance and its relevance to the economy make the maintenance industry indicator an important economic indicator for the future.
