After the CoVid pandemic, Latin America will become even more important as a production and development location in the coming years. Darum sind wir die Partnerschaft mit dem FIR eingegangen. Das Institut verfügt über jahrelange Erfahrung im Aufbau von nachhaltigen Unternehmensökosystemen so- wie mit internationalen Projekten in China, den Vereinigten Staaten, in Südafrika, der Türkei, in Mexiko und in Chile, wo sich auch einer der Vertreter des FIR befindet“, erklärt Arturo Alba, Wissenschaftler der Fakultät für Ingenieurwesen und Wissenschaften, der bei der Realisierung der Vereinbarung eine zentrale Rolle einnahm. Nachhaltigkeit für die globale Gemeinschaft Die Kooperation zwischen dem FIR an der RWTH Aachen und der Fakultät für Ingenieur- und Naturwissenschaften der UAI ist Bestandteil eines strategischen Plans – beide Parteien vertreten die Perspektive, dass „Technologien benötigt werden, um komplexe Probleme auf nachhaltige Weise zu lösen. Wir haben ein gemeinsames Ziel“, so Arturo Alba. Diese Vereinbarung stellt somit eine einmalige Gelegenheit dar, die Diskussion über Nachhaltigkeit innerhalb der welt- weiten Ingenieurgemeinschaft genauso zu fördern wie die Potenziale, die die verschiedenen Fachgebiete zur Weiterentwicklung der Gesellschaft bieten. Wichtig ist hierbei, das Wort „Entwicklung“ nicht nur in seiner wirtschaftlichen Dimension zu verstehen, son- dern der sozialen und ökologischen Dimension den gleichen Stellenwert einzuräumen. Dies ist vor allem für Länder von besonderer Bedeutung, in denen bis- lang vor allem der Bergbausektor der Bevölkerung ein regelmäßiges, wirtschaftliches Einkommen garan- tiert. Darüber hinaus können Ingenieurprojekte in den Bereichen Infrastruktur, Innovation und Integrative University: “We are looking for a relationship between like- minded partners in terms of knowledge and development potential with the aimof conducting high-impact research. The institute has years of experience in building sustainable ecosystems and in undertaking international projects in China, the United States, South Africa, Turkey, Mexico, and Chile, where one of FIR’s representatives is also located,” explains Arturo Alba, a researcher at the Faculty of Engineering and Science who played a central role in bringing about the agreement. Sustainability for the Global Community The collaboration between FIR at RWTHAachenUniversity and UAI’s Faculty of Engineering and Science is part of a strategic plan – both parties share the perspective that “technologies are needed to solve complex problems in a sustainable way,” as Arturo Alba puts it. “We have a common goal.” The agreement provides a unique opportunity to promote the debate on sustainability within the global engineering community and to exploit the potential of the various disciplines to advance society. Importantly, the word “development” is not only to be understood in its economic aspects – e equal importance is tobe given to its social and environmental dimensions. This is particularly important for countries where, up to now, it has been mainly the mining sector that has provided the population with a regular income. In addition, engineering projects in the areas of infrastructure, innovation and integrative technologies can have a positive impact on sustainable development for the benefit of all.
