FOCUS – BEST PRACTICES 18 / UdZ 01.23 Auf den ersten Blick ist die DFA Demonstrationsfabrik Aachen GmbH ein ganz normaler Produktionsbetrieb. Im Rahmen der Lohnfertigung werden verschiedene Produkte aus Stahlblech gefertigt und montiert. Jedoch hat die DFA eine weitere Aufgabe: Als echte Produktionsum- gebung auf dem RWTH Aachen Campus werden dort theoretische Konzepte praktisch umgesetzt und angewandt, mit dem Ziel, Innovationen voranzutreiben. Damit gilt die Demonstrationsfabrik im Cluster Smart Logistik auf dem RWTH Aachen Campus als DAS zentrale Reallabor der Aachener Produktionstechnik. Das übergeordnete Ziel dieser Infrastruktur besteht in der engen Verzahnung von Praxis, Forschung und Weiterbildung. Im realen Produktionsbetrieb werden Usecases im Themenfeld von Industrie 4.0 umgesetzt, validiert und demonstriert. Öffentlich zugängliche Touren zeigen die Aktivitäten für Interessierte und Fachleute. Bis zu 15 000 Personen erleben hier jährlich Industrie 4.0 im echten Betrieb. Zu den Gästen zählen vor allem Vertreter:innen produzierender Unternehmen und IT-Lösungsanbieter sowie Forscher:innen, Berater:innen und Studierende. Durch die Demonstration innovativer Technologien in der DFA kann sowohl der Wissensstand der Industrie als auch die Sichtbarkeit dieser Technologien erhöht werden. Technologieanbieter kooperieren mit der DFA, um ihre Lösungen im echten Produktionsbetrieb zu testen und zu präsentieren. Diese Präsentation geschieht durch geführte Touren in der DFA. Wissenschaftler:innen aus den Instituten FIR und WZL fungieren als Tourguides und führen Besucher:innen die Usecases vor. Die Demonstrationsfabrik stellt sich den aktuellen Mega- trends in der industriellen Produktion. Einst gestartet mit der Darstellung der üblichen Prinzipien des Lean-Managements, bietet die DFA heute die Integration von Industrie 4.0 in den echten Produktionsbetrieb. In den kommenden drei Jahren liegt der Fokus verstärkt auf Remanufacturing im Rahmen der Kreislaufwirtschaft. A t first glance, the Demonstrationsfabrik (DFA) is a completely normal production facility. As a contract manufacturing service, various sheet-steel products are manufactured and assembled. However, the DFA has another task: at the real-world production environment on RWTH Aachen Campus, theoretical concepts are implemented and applied in practice, with the aim of driving innovations forward. Thus, the demonstration factory in the Smart Logistics Cluster on RWTH Aachen Campus is considered the main living lab of Aachen Production Technology. The overarching goal of this infrastructure is to closely integrate practice, research, and further education. Industrie 4.0 use cases are implemented, validated, and demonstrated in real-world production operations. Guided tours of the facility for both the wider public and experts offer insights into the activities at the DFA where every year, up to 15,000 people experience Industrie 4.0 in real-world operations. Guests are mainly comprised of representatives of manufacturing companies and IT solution providers as well as researchers, consultants, and students. By demonstrating innovative technologies at the DFA, both the knowledge in the industry and the visibility of these technologies can be increased. Technology providers partner with the DFA to test and showcase their solutions in real production environments. They have the opportunity to present their solutions “hands on” in guided tours at the DFA. Researchers from FIR and WZL institutes serve as tour guides and demonstrate use cases to visitors. The demonstration factory addresses the current megatrends in industrial production. Once launched to apply and illustrate the key principles of lean management, the DFA now offers the integration of Industrie 4.0 into real production operations.
