UdZ / Issue 01.23

The project outcome will be a practical demonstrator that, at the end of the implementation phase, will be nondiscriminatory and freely accessible to companies along the entire value chain of the food packaging industry. With its functionalities, the CCP will drive the further development of a competitive, sustainable circular economy in the field of plastic food packaging. In particular, the information provided by the CCP will help to ensure that secondary plastics can be reused safely and in accordance with the requirements, i.e., for example, without causing contamination of foodstuffs, without jeopardizing the impermeability of packaging, and without reducing sensitivity to temperature fluctuations. In the end, this should help conserve natural resources and contribute to climate protection. Figure 1 shows the how the planned scope of functions serves to achieve the overarching goals of COPPA. As a mature CCP, the project result of COPPA is intended to provide all stakeholders in food packaging value networks with the best possible transparency of the secondary plastics market. It will also ensure solution proposals to achieve individual material reduction targets, efficient increase in the use of recyclates, as well as agile procurement of optimal secondary plastics, e. g. via newly developed smart contract models. The shift from a predominantly linear economy to a digitally enabled circular economy can lead to significantly different value streams in the market and requirements for market participants. Led by the Ecosystem Design group from FIR’s Business Transformation unit, a business ecosystem for the implementation and promotion of the CCP is therefore being developed and tested with existing and new players in
