20 Unternehmen der Zukunft 3/2011 UdZ Dienstleistungsmanagement SustainValue: Sustainable value creation in manufacturing networks The overall goal of SustainValue is to develop industrial models, solutions and performance standards for new sustainable andmore performing production and service networks. The pro- ject will develop governance and business models, a newmethodology to support sustainable life cycle decisions and sustainability assurance performance standards for complex business processes in integrated production and service networks. To reach this aim, a consortium of 10 companies, universities and research centres from several countries was launched. The project started in April 2011, will last 36 months and is funded by the European Commission (project no. 262931). This article will describe the goals of the project and the roadmap how these goals should be achieved. Furthermore, the three dimensions of sustainability which the project deals with will be introduced. Present status and challenges The significance of manufacturing industry in Europe is widely known and accepted. Manufacturing companies generate, directly and via services, wealth and jobs in all European coun- tries. The current production paradigm is based on collaborative value-adding networks, and the globalisation has activated a different industrial revolution, leading to a new world distribution of production and markets. The increasing demands for sustainability, however, have created new challenges for society and business. To be successful and resilient in this ever chan- ging business environment, manufacturers must be pro-active. Industrial practitioners need to be creative in recognition of the opportunities, the sustainable economy will present for de- velopment of new products, in identification of changes in markets and in optimizing their internationally operating network according to the new sustainability criteria. A concrete way for exploiting these opportunities is the develop- ment and implementation of new sustainability- based industrial models and concepts. Sustainable value criteria To develop sustainable industrial models and concepts, three dimensions have to be consi- dered. There are economic, environmental and social aspects which are necessary to create sustainable business models. Figure 1 shows the three dimensions and some specific aspects to each dimension. Key challenges related to sustainable manufacturing networks Enterprises have to take into consideration not just the economic goals but also the need to now simultaneously meet environmental and social goals in carrying out business; recogni- sing that economic, environmental and social impacts occur at all stages in the value-network, including during customer use. This implies not only being able to manage internal activities and operations of the producing organization, but also getting all the value-network partners to follow the same principles and performance standards that have implicit or explicit influence on the sustainable product and service delivery Projekttitel SustainValue Projekt-/ Forschungsträger Europäische Union (FP7 – NMP) Förderkennzeichen 262931 Projektpartner Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), Cranfield University (CU), Center for Industrial Asset Management at University of Stavanger (UiS), The German Institute for Standardization (DIN), FIDIA, Riversimple (LLP), CLAAS Selbstfahrende Erntemaschinen GmbH, ELCON Solutions Oy Ansprechpartner Dipl.-Ing.
