Inhaltlich ging es um digitale Technologien in der Logistik beim Tracking. Ich wusste direkt: Das ist es, was ich machen möchte. Ich habe mich dann bei Felix, der damals Leiter der Fachgruppe Informationstechnologiemanagement im Bereich Informationsmanagement war, als HiWi beworben. So bin ich zum FIR gekommen. UdZ: Hattest Du damals schon die Absicht, zu promovieren? Stroh: Nach meinem Studium wollte ich auf jeden Fall promovieren und ich entschied mich, trotz anderer Angebote, meine Mitarbeit am FIR als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Fachgruppe fortzusetzen. Ich habe mich hier so wohl gefühlt, dass ich bleiben und hier promovieren wollte. UdZ: Was genau hat Dich dazu bewegt, am FIR zu bleiben? Stroh: Es waren sowohl die Thematik als auch das Gesamtpaket. Beides hat mich überzeugt. Digitalisierung im industriellen Umfeld finde ich überaus spannend – das war ja auch der Grund, weshalb ich mich am FIR beworben habe. Auf der anderen Seite sind es die ständig neuen Herausforderungen, die Möglichkeit, in kürzester Zeit sehr viel zu lernen sowie die besonders kollegiale und warme Arbeitsatmosphäre. Die offene und freundschaftliche Kultur am FIR durfte ich ja schon als HiWi kennenlernen. UdZ: Was waren Deine Meilensteine auf dem Weg zum Bereichsleiter am FIR? Stroh: Nach einiger Zeit als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Fachgruppe Informationstechnologiemanagement übernahm ich die Leitung der Fachgruppe. Quasi zeitgleich wurde ich auch stellvertretender Bereichsleiter. Das Etappenziel, einmal Bereichsleiter zu werden, hatte ich schon ganz zu Anfang meiner Mitarbeit am FIR. Vor rund einem halben Jahr war es dann so weit. UdZ: Was reizt Dich an der Position des Bereichsleiters? Stroh: Mittlerweile sind zu den sehr frühen Beweggründen noch einige hinzugekommen: Von Anfang an gefiel mir, dass man am FIR recht schnell sehr viel Verantwortung übernimmt. Hinzu kommt, dass ich schon immer vorhatte, mich einmal on “Intelligent Objects”, which was given by another FIR researcher, Felix Jordan, ultimately tipped the scales in favor of working at FIR. It was about digital technologies in logistics and tracking. I knew right away: this is what I want to do. I then applied to Felix, who at the time was head of the Information Technology Management research unit in the Information Management department, for a position as a student assistant. That's how I came to FIR. UdZ: Did you already have the intention to do a PhD at that time? Stroh: After my studies, I definitely wanted to do a doctorate and, despite being offered other positions, I decided to continuemy work at FIR as a graduate student in the research unit. I felt so happy here at FIR that I wanted to stay and pursue my doctorate here. UdZ: What exactly made you stay at FIR? Stroh: It was both the job content and the overall “package”. Both aspects convinced me to stay. I find digitalization in the industrial environment extremely exciting – that’s the main reason why I applied to FIR. On the other hand, there are constantly new challenges, the opportunity to learn a lot in a very short time, and the particularly friendly and warm working atmosphere. I already got to know the open and friendly culture at FIR as a student assistant. UdZ: What were your milestones on the way to becoming a head of department at FIR? Stroh: After some time as a research assistant in the Information Technology Management research unit, I became its head. Almost at the same time, I also became deputy head of department. I had already set myself the goal of becoming a department head at the very beginning of my work at FIR. About half a year ago, the time had come. UdZ: What appeals to you about the position of head of department? Stroh: I have set myself some other goals in addition to the early ones: Right from the start, I liked the fact that you take on a lot of responsibility at FIR very quickly.
