Siemens Energy operates more than 80 production sites worldwide. This number clearly illustrates the high product diversity. The current IT system landscapes have grown historically. These evolved structures represent a major challenge for managing complexity. These evolved structures mean an almost unmanageable complexity. In addition, a global S4/Hana implementation is planned in the near future. A heterogeneous production IT always means considerable costs in the area of interface creation and adaptation, caused by the existing individual systems. The experts from FIR and Siemens Energy took on the challenge of developing a harmonized MES landscape that would meet all the demands and requirements of the distributed production sites. At the beginning of the project, we didn't commit ourselves stubbornly to a specific number of IT systems; it seemed more sensible to us to reduce the number of systems as much as possible without accepting any functional losses. The very high level of technical and methodological competence stood out significantly compared to the other bids received. Wir differenzierten jene Systeme, die auch in Zukunft noch wertvoller Step by Step to the Goal The first phase involved a classic as-is analysis: Siemens Energy selected a total of 19 production sites that covered the various requirements as fully as possible. We analyzed these plants together in a two-day structured interview. The primary objective here was to understand the exact working methods of the plants on the one hand and to record the current IT system landscape on the other. This resulted in the first requirement sets. Such requirement sets are necessary in order to be able to assign them to the respective production types. Based on this analysis, we were able to identify five different requirement clusters from the production types (individual, variant, series production, service, assembly). This result forms the cornerstone on the way to standardized and harmonized IT system landscape in production. In a next step, we took a close look at the IT systems already used internally. In a first step, the individual systems were roughly analyzed, and then in the further course an in-depth analysis was carried out. The most important thing here was to separate the wheat from the chaff. We differentiated those systems that could still be a valuable part of the IT system landscape in the future from those that were no longer useful. On the basis of the sets
