FOCUS – INTERVIEW 64 / UdZ 03.22 UdZ: Welche Bedeutung haben Unternehmens- undWirtschaftsökosysteme in diesem Zusammenhang? Gerrit: Eine ganz zentrale. Umauf dasBildmit dem Auto zurückzukommen: Wir können übergeordnet sagen, welconsider how to integrate all partners involved in the process with their competencies and how to get each partner excited about participating in this construct. That is where we quickly get into ecosystem thinking. UdZ: In addition to shaping business ecosystems, what challenges do you see for individual companies? Gerrit: Decentralization is currently the biggest challenge for companies, especially in terms of managing employees. We have experienced it firsthand: How do I lead in the digital age when people are no longer on site? How can we strengthen the trust of managers and employees? But how can I also set up leadership concepts strategically, for example, to realize a culture that fits the needs of stakeholders? These are the topics that are currently occupying us in the field of leadership. We are also fortunate in that we are currently implementing a number of research projects on circular value creation systems and decentralized workplace concepts. We are looking forward to transferring the results to industry. UdZ: Would you say that the business transformation group forms the bracket for all digital transformation topics? Gerrit: Yes, definitely. Transformation projects can take place acrosstheboardas largeprogramsoras individual transformation projects, such as the restructuring of the IT infrastructure. For us, transformation projects that we look at from an overarching perspective in the area of business transformation are always the starting point for other topics. I see this approach as an absolute strength of the FIR, because we have extreme depth here in the different areas such as production, service and information management. To return to the image of the car: We can say in a superordinatewaywhichcaryouneeddependingonthe location, but just as well in a subject-specific way how you replace the engine. You can only find such well-founded and comprehensive solution expertice only in a fewplaces, but definitely at the FIR. UdZ: It is obvious that digitalization can no longer be stopped. Just as the topic of sustainability is highly relevant from an ecological, economic and social perspective. Is the sustainable transformation therefore the greatest challenge for business and society? Gerrit: The existentially threatening effects of the climate crisis for our entire planet make sustainability transformation the central challenge of the next decades. Awareness of this
