Figure 1 and 2). AIXTRA Dr. Leonie Löffler and Michelle Schmidt (both research assistants at AIXTRA) kicked things off with the history and concept of the AIXTRA Competence Centre. Afterwards, Michael Schauwinhold (specialist in anaesthesiology at the UKA and organisational manager of the simulation at AIXTRA) led a tour of the various learning rooms. Here, students, doctors undergoing further training, nursing staff and also external professional groups from the health sector can complete courses. Skills such as blood sampling, ultrasound examinations or emergency operations are trained in realistic rooms and with real utensils. Human dummies or actors are used to simulate and reflect on concrete work situations (see Figure 1 and 2). St. Gereon Senior Services Jan Fabry (Quality Officer and Project Manager at St. Gereon) presented the guiding principles and implementation of the third learning place in elderly care, which is located in one of St. Gereon's residential homes. Here, trainees can immerse themselves in practice close to work and practise relevant care-related actions at the start of their training. This third learning location is designed exactly like a “real” room in a retirement home (living/sleeping area, bathroom, kitchen elements), which maximises the practical relevance.
