ProSense

High-resolution production control based on cybernetic support systems and intelligent sensors

The aim of this research project is to develop a high-resolution, adaptive production control based on cybernetic support systems and intelligent sensors. In this context, the control systems should be formed in such a way that these support the person as a decision-maker optimally to control the production by means of high-resolution data and intelligent visualization to increase with it the efficiency of the production with sustainability.

The research and development project "ProSense" is beside the two projects KapaflexCy and Cypros one of three funded BMBF projects under the concept "Forschung für die Produktion von morgen" and the funding program "Intelligente Vernetzung in der Produktion - Ein Beitrag zum Zukunftsprojekt Industrie 4.0" . It has the aim to support the initiative, "High-Tech Strategie 2020 für Deutschland" by the Federal Government through the development of a regulation and control system for complex production networks based on a cybernetic control loop behavior and adaptive design of logistics networks.

Today Manufacturing companies are facing the challenge to master their becoming increasingly individual process chains despite increasing market dynamics. The proper control of production processes is a key success factor. Today's software solutions does not match the requirements for rapid adjustment of production. Consequently, production processes are not mapped adequately on the software side. In addition to the lack of flexibility on the software side there is a lack of transparency in terms of processes and also for the specific controller logic. The aim of this research project is to develop a high-resolution, adaptive production control based on cybernetic support systems and intelligent sensors.

In this context, the control systems should be formed in such a way that these support the person as a decision-maker optimally to the control the production by means of high-resolution data and intelligent visualization to increase with it the efficiency of the production with sustainability. Main goal of the project ProSense is to strengthen the competitive position of German industrial companies with the developed results. The solutions are contributing to potential savings in terms of process, control, and operating expenses as well as to enhance transparency of the production process. Detailed control systems are supplemented by an intelligent decision-making and visualization level. Autonomous communicating sensor systems improve the data quality in the systems and their connection to higher-level IT systems should also be standardized.
