EDIH Rheinland 2.0
European Digital Innovation Hub Rheinland 2.0

The aim of the ‘EDIH Rheinland 2.0’ project is to support small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, mid-caps, and public institutions in the Rhineland in the responsible use of artificial intelligence, the development of digital skills, and the implementation of sustainable, AI-supported business models. The project focuses on artificial intelligence, human-centred AI, and upgrading the circular economy.
Initial Situation
Many companies and public institutions in the Rhineland would like to use artificial intelligence, but face challenges such as a lack of expertise, limited data and IT resources, uncertainty around investment decisions, and regulatory requirements. At the same time, AI offers significant potential for productivity, competitiveness, and sustainability.
‘EDIH Rheinland 2.0’ builds on the first funding phase and strategically further develops the existing support services. The hub supports organisations in their digital and green transformation and strengthens the region as a centre of innovation.
Solution Approach
‘EDIH Rheinland 2.0’ offers a structured customer journey, from initial orientation through to the implementation of concrete AI use cases. Entry points include the AI Helpdesk, information services, and networking events. In Business Dialogues, individual needs are analysed and suitable next steps are defined.
The service portfolio comprises four areas: Test Before Invest, Training and Skill Development, Access to Finance, and Innovation Ecosystem and Networking. A particular focus lies on combining artificial intelligence with the Upgrade Circular Economy. In this context, AI supports the enhancement of existing products, processes, and business models across multiple life cycles.
Expected Result
Through ‘EDIH Rheinland 2.0’ SMEs, start-ups, mid-caps, and public institutions gain low-threshold access to AI knowledge, technological expertise, training opportunities, financing support, and European innovation infrastructures. They can improve their digital maturity, develop concrete use cases, and test AI solutions before making an investment.
In this way, the project contributes to the digital sovereignty, competitiveness, and sustainable transformation of the Rhineland region.
Benefits for the Target Group
The target groups benefit from practical support provided by a strong consortium of partners from research, knowledge transfer, economic development and the public sector. They receive guidance, training, implementation support, and access to relevant networks.
As a result, companies and public institutions are empowered to use artificial intelligence responsibly, in a human-centred way, and with clear economic value.
