Li-Mobility

Battery management algorithms for LiFePO4 batteries that consider aging of the battery

Li-Mobility aimed at developing a battery management system that would allow prediction of the effects of using the battery for supporting the power grid.

In project Li-Mobility a battery management system (BMS) for batteries for electric cars was developed that forecasted the aging of batteries when using them for supporting the power grid. The initial research was focused on conventional Li-Ion cells as well as on lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) cells. Based on this BMS an optimization model that considers various parameters for deciding if the capacity should be used for grid services were developed. The optimization could be subject to revenues from supporting the grid, battery costs or remaining charging cycles for example. Also, a vehicle-to-grid business model that is based on the optimization model was specified.
