Assessment of the RFID application on the basis of a benefit evaluation of RFID systems for middle-size enterprises

The project aim of RFID-EAs was the development of a new method for a benefit evaluation of RFID applications.

The implementation and usage of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)-systems is increasing as well as the development of the technology itself. Problems like missing standards, insufficient reading rates, or influence of metal or fluid are more and more being solved. Nevertheless, many companies, and especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), hold back with investments in RFID. As a main obstacle, missing business cases and the absence of suitable methods for the evaluation of RFID-application are mentioned. Building on an analysis of the challenges in evaluating RFID-systems, this paper suggests a method for the qualitative and quantitative assessment of such systems as part of an integrated approach for the planning and evaluation of Auto-ID-systems.
