TuWAs

Transformation hub for metal forming value chains in the powertrain

The aim of the research project 'TuWAs' is to establish a transformation hub that enables companies in the massive forming sector to meet the challenges of disruptive megatrends.

Initial situation

Key drivers such as the mobility revolution, the sustainability revolution, digitization and a dynamic change in the world of work are leading to drastic, necessary transformation processes in the automotive industry. Especially the shift towards electromobility poses existential challenges for suppliers of forming components for the powertrain and increases the pressure to align their value chains and business models in a future-oriented manner in order to remain competitive in the market.

Solution approach

The research hub to be created in the project is intended to provide the framework for a lively community and a lively exchange of knowledge. To this end, it is necessary to analyze comprehensive domain and action knowledge about concrete transformation needs with and at the companies, as well as to build up and structure transfer potentials and opportunities in order to subsequently implement them in the companies through appealing, target-group-oriented transfer formats. The aim is to provide end-to-end support for companies and their employees in the transformation process so that the identified potential for success can be activated quickly in order to maintain and sustainably increase competitiveness. At the heart of the transformation hub's success are the knowledge transfer and networking services it offers to support transformation. The hub's transfer formats and tools are offered in digital and hybrid formats as well as in person.

Expected result

The project is intended to have a long-term impact on the success of the companies and to empower them,

  1. to increase their sales by 10% within the next 5 years;
  2. to increase the share of new products and innovations in sales by 6% per year;
  3. create new jobs (5% within the next 5 years) and retain existing ones;
  4. implement a resource saving of up to 5% per year.

Benefits for the target group

The largely medium-sized companies in the massive forming sector often lack the capacities and expertise necessary for transformation. The transformation hub 'TuWAs' aims to enable these companies to transform themselves with individual support services in order to prosper in a sustainable and digital future with changed mobility, working and living environments. Participation in the project or the utilisation of TuWAs' range of services does not involve any financial outlay for interested companies.
